Spacer Questions You Didn't Know To Ask
When Planning Your Golf Tournament.

Planning a golf tournament does not mean you know all the right questions to ask. Below are a couple to help you on your way.

What is overseeding?

The spreading of grass seed on top of existing grasses to promote new growth or to replace the existing grass with a new strain for a season. Done by golf courses that use bermuda grass. Bermuda grass goes dormant annually and the golf courses lose their lush green color on the fairways and greens. Playing conditions become less than perfect.

In early autumn, courses effected will put down typically a ryegrass seed on top of the existing bermudagrass, timed so that as the bermudagrass goes dormant then ryegrass grows in.

Then, in spring, the process is reversed. Some courses that overseed will offer discounted greens fees during these periods because the greens will be heavily sanded and the new grass may not be cut for a week or longer. Playing conditions can be effected in every phase, including restriction on cart usage and peripheral events.

As a tournament planner you will not be able to present the best playing conditions for your scheduled event. The very best way to avoid this possible situation is to require the course provider to designate in writing within your golf course agreement when the course will be conducting their overseeding campaign.

Other things you, the golf tournament planner should know about overseeding...

Facilities with 27 holes have more options, they can rotate one nine holes every two weeks, so they can remain open and still provide 18 holes in top condition for your event.

Most courses business strategy is about supply and demand. Course management almost doubles its green fees after the overseeding is complete.

What golf tournament format should I choose?
What do you mean "format?"

Choosing the right golf tournament format could make or break the entertainment value of course play. Which golf tournament format should you choose for your golf tournament?
